Meet Catherine - Nashville Art Therapist

Hi, I’m Catherine (She/Her/Hers). As a Board Certified Art Therapist and Registered Yoga Teacher, I provide individual sessions in Art Therapy, Mindfulness, and Yoga to support individuals facing chronic illness, grief and loss, burnout, and compassion fatigue.

Since graduating from the George Washington University in 2007 with a master’s degree in art therapy, I have been helping clients engage in their own art making, creativity, and self-inquiry as a way to find ease among life’s many challenges. My friends describe me as authentic, compassionate, and insightful and maybe one of the most organized people they have ever met. With these traits along with my knowledge of mental health and well-being, it is my aim to provide a welcoming and safe space for you, a place where you can be fully and completely heard as you tell your story and learn new ways to cope.

During sessions, I can guide you in the practices of art therapy, mindfulness, and yoga to help you relieve stress, release and understand difficult emotions, restore your energy, and discover new ways to leave you feeling more like your true self.

How do I know this? Because I have long witnessed the profound benefits of art therapy, mindfulness, and yoga for myself and many others. From 2012 to 2019, I worked with Nashville’s Centennial Medical Center helping people admitted to the hospital’s services in oncology, pediatrics, bariatric and orthopedic surgery, and intensive outpatient mental health. I have also experienced these benefits myself when facing moments of grief and loss, chronic pain from surgeries, difficult life transitions, and burnout on the job. Because of this professional and personal experience, it is my mission to help you navigate this stressful time in your life and find the tools from within that allow you to thrive even within the most difficult of circumstances.

Just as we learn in different ways (intellectually, visually, physically, and so on), we also process and heal from our lived experience in different ways. Art Therapy can be a wonderful service to try when talking about a problem becomes difficult or continually leaves you feeling stuck. When words are hard to find, the physical and mental action of creativity as well as the visual imagery of artwork can be both calming and restorative while also creating the conditions needed for profound insight, growth, and healing.
